So, we were in Omaha all weekend searching for a place to live. It was quite the trip.
Last week was insanely busy - had an Enrichment meeting I had to run on Tuesday night (a progressive dinner, no less, so was pretty involved) then had Wednesday to get things cleaned, packed and ready to leave on Thursday.
Davis did a great job on the long flights. He put forth great effort at being good in the car for so long. He was pretty much done the last day, though. Being that Jeremy and I don't know the Omaha area, and had such a limited time to search for a place to live, we just made appointments and TRIED to arrange them in an organized way, but for the first day or so we circled Omaha a few times I'm sure of it.
Because we knew we would spend so much time in the car, we left Addie home. It was sad to not have her with us, but she had fun without us.
Some highlights and funny moments from the trip:
Me: (While looking at potential places to live) "Jeremy, there was a COCKROACH on the floor of the kitchen!!!"
Jeremy: "Yeah, but it was a DEAD cockroach." (As if THAT makes a difference!!!)
Jeremy: (Trying to stay positive after looking at such trashy places to live) "Well....it had nice shingles."
We got lost quite a few times.
Me: "Tom-tom's getting upset!" (Tom-tom was Britt's GPS system that she let us borrow for the trip. Thanks, Britt! Anyway, whenever we would get lost it would freak out and keep saying "whenever possible, make a u-turn" over and over again. We finally just had to turn her off.)

Oh, and the absolute HIGHLIGHT of the trip has to be this.
Tornado Wreaks Havoc In Omaha
That's right, folks, there was L-I-T-E-R-A-L-L-Y a tornado IN Omaha while we were there.
Jeremy and I woke up to the sound of the tornado sirens (there are actual sirens that go off when a tornado is spotted) in our hotel room at like 2:00 in the morning on Sunday. Pretty scary.
Note to self: Get 72-hour kit in order before we move.

All in all, the Omaha trip was great.
We really got to know the town (another quote that came up quite a bit: "I honestly believe we are actually driving in circles.") Jeremy is sure if we could download the route our car took from the tom-tom, we could prove to everybody just how lost we got.
Anyway, everybody we met out there was so super friendly, I mean EVERYBODY. And Davis was quite the hit - the lady at the car rental place even bumped us up to a brand new Subaru Outback for the trip since we had him with us. Nice.
Oh, so did we actually find a place to live for the next year or so??? Maybe. We were able to narrow it down to where we absolutely would NOT live, so I guess that's a good thing. We are looking at house pretty seriously - and get this....it's on MORMON Street. No joke, the street is actually named Mormon Street. Is it a sign????
Will post some updated pictures of the kiddos in a bit. Thanks to everybody to helped out while we were gone and to the nice Omaha-ens (???) who helped us out. See ya in a couple months!!!
Welcome back, Chad and I had realized how much we depended on you guys when you left...Dont leave us again!!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear the trip was successful! Sorry that I wasn't around to help with Addie. Are you still planning on coming to FHE next week? I hope so!
