Before I had two kids...

Before I had two kids, I couldn't believe the parents who would let their kids get like this during mealtimes:

I mean, how hard is it to keep your kid clean during dinner??

How much of it even got into his mouth?

Oh, seeing this would have stressed me out to no end... who knows where I'm going to be finding noodles for the next week??

But now I see him at dinner time and it just makes me laugh (and deposit him directly into the bathtub).

I'm not sure if this change in standards is a positive thing or......?

By the numbers...

3 days until Jeremy's done with classes

13 days until his final final exam

16 days until my parents come visit (who I haven't seen in almost 5 months)

20 days until Jeremy starts his summer rotations. :( At least we get a few days off!

What we've been up to....

I keep waiting for my friends to update their blog and realize I'm being a bit of a hypocrite. So, here's what we've been up to lately.

I've been spring cleaning - getting the kids' closets organized and clothes that don't fit/stained/etc. out and making a list of clothes to get for spring. I also had Jeremy move the slide back outside (yay for warm weather!) which means I have my basement back, so I've been working on making that a nice play room for the kids/air mattress space for out-of-town guests. (I know, air mattress in the basement, classy right? That's just how we roll....)

I also have been organizing the kids' toys. Can I just say I love Target? I got these awesome little storage bins that came with DRY ERASE labels. I love it.
And they had these little disks/chairs on CLEARANCE for like 6 bucks, so we got D one in blue an Addie one in pink. They have been quite the hit.

I also have been wanting something to put up on the wall in Davis' room and I found this great letter at Hobby Lobby - it was awesome in that it was dimensional and a nice size, but just the wrong color. Nothing a little spray paint can't fix!
I was going to do his full name, but we really just call him "D" most of the time, and I didn't want to do his full name in all caps. So it's just D and I really like it.

While I was working on various projects, my kids were playing very well together in their play kitchen. I wasn't aware they had taken some of MY kitchen tools to play with, and unfortunately my pastry brush bit the dust during my bit of productivity:

Oh well. At least it wasn't my Microplane.
Little stinkers.

Finally, this piece of mail showed up today and although it was totally junk and about three years premature, it still made me laugh:

Ahhhh...someday......

He's Getting There!

He's still a little uneasy on his feet - but he has started walking across the living room!

I don't know whether to encourage his newfound mobility or not....

Easter, cont.

Jeremy set the timer on our camera, propped it up on the sofa and ran for one of a very few whole family photos. We were late for Stake Conference, but we got the family photo!!! :)

Decorating eggs last night.

We've been trying to teach Davis to crawl down the stairs by himself. He wanted nothing to do with it until a few days ago. The day after his tubes were in, he just totally got it and went all the way down by himself. He has also taken a few steps independently. We are so happy with the results of his procedure.

Checking out their Easter baskets this morning. (Addie kept calling it Easter Rabbit. So funny.)

Addie got a brand new swimsuit - she loved the strawberry on the front.

Addie's dress that she loved, but had a hard time getting buckled into her carseat for church! :)

What little stinkers!

Davis has started folding his hands when we say a prayer!

We hope all of friends and family had a great Easter. We missed all of you!

Happy Easter

Exciting Day

After a restless night (for all of us!) Davis and I were out the door at 6:30 am this morning to check him in at the hospital to get tubes in his ears. Unfortunately, I totally spaced that I needed gas (as in "hmmm...how long has that gas light been on???) *sorry, Dad* so we had to make a quick stop and then were on our way - a little quicker this time so we could make sure to be there on time.

The staff and nurses were great, and I'm sure they say this to every parent, but they loved Davis and thought he was the cutest thing. He was smiling and happy throughout the whole morning. I took out my camera (didn't remember gas, did remember the camera) and went to take a picture of him in his little hospital pajamas and the batteries died (ok, so I'm a space-cadet all around today). So, we had to make do with semi-horrible quality pictures taken from my cell.

I'm happy to say the surgery was a total success and the ENT (who couldn't have been nicer and we figured was probably around Jeremy's age) said his hearing will be dramatically improved and to keep him away from loud noises today until he builds up his tolerance. (How am I supposed to keep him away from a noisy two-year-old?)

Thanks to all of the texts and emails and offers of support. Thanks, especially, to Malissa and Jeffrey and Brooklyn for entertaining Addie this morning. She had a total blast.

It just hit me when they took him away on that stretcher the amount of agony parents of young kids with chronic, life-threatening conditions must feel every day. I'm so grateful for my healthy kids and just keep thinking about families who feel this way with their kids so often.

I hope every has a wonderful Easter weekend!!

This was D post-Demerol dose but pre-surgery. He started getting loopy and kept poking my eyes and nose. The nurse said it was probably because he was seeing three of them!!

All hooked up. Look at those chubby toes.

Post-surgery. He woke up in the recovery room and wouldn't settle down for the nurse (imagine that!) so they brought him to me. He fell asleep on my chest and kept waking up every few minutes and would half-eyed check that I was still holding him, then turn around and see that Jeremy was still in his chair across the room, then promptly pass back out.

They wouldn't let us be discharged until he woke up, and I knew he would sleep forever on my chest, so we put him in the little crib and he stayed asleep for about five minutes and then woke up. Yay - we got to go home.

We took his little PJ shirt off - it was huge and was bugging him. This is after he woke up. A little dazed but happy!

Here is he starting to wake up. Look at that belly!

Happy to be heading home!

Getting Closer!

Davis is getting closer and closer to walking. He LOVES dragging this thing around the house with him. He is so strong he will hold it with one hand while pushing obstacles (like clothes on the floor or closed doors) out of the way.

He doesn't attempt to actually take a step without it, though, but we're hoping that his surgery on Friday will help that. Davis is getting tubes in his ears - we went to a pediatric ENT about his chronic ear infections. An Audiologist at the office did a hearing test and poor Davis - his right ear didn't register ANYTHING getting through due to all of the fluid and nasty infection that just never clears up.

The ENT is confident that the tubes will help his balance and verbal skills. Anyway, say a little prayer for him this week - the procedure is so easy - it's super routine and we are literally in and out in a matter of a few hours. I will update later! For now, enjoy the little clip of our sweet guy.
